I sing to you of the man, the wanderer, thrice cursed and thrice blessed by Fate – the Mariner. Tossed like floatsam on the wine-dark sea, The Mariner sailed for twenty-and-three years when the World was still young.
He, the master navigator, the fisherman unparalleled, the
voyager without peer, the most excellent one, showed us how to live on and with
the sea. Attend to these five simple rules so that you may sail in the wake of
The Mariner’s glory.
Offer aid to those in need on the sea – Fate be a fickle bitch, and those who can do so must help those in distress. Be not a fool; don’t endanger your ship to save another.
Show no mercy to the unnatural – Those opposed to the natural order of the sea deserve your blade and nothing more. It be for you to decide who they may be.
Partake of the sea’s bounty – Life and death are as natural as the tides; slake your hunger and harvest the riches of the sea as you will, but waste not.
Respect the elderly and infirm – They might be dragons.
Honor the ram and ewe – Sheep are blessed by the gods and shall not be harmed. They bring good luck to a ship, so sing their praises and embrace them with affection.
