All Belasco has ever known is the North. He doesn't remember his mother's face or how his stern, violent father Mattis spirited him away from the south under mysterious circumstances when he was very young.
He only remembers the snow, the mountains, the woods.
In a log cabin outside Lonelywood, Mattis taught Belasco how to read from holy books of Pelor. In the snowy woods beyond the cabin, he schooled his son in the art of woodcraft and trapping. Together, father and son survived by trading furs and meat with the nearby village.
When the sun vanished, Mattis took it hard. A disciple of the sun god Pelor, he felt as if his connection with his god had been severed. One dark morning, Mattis walked naked into the den of the notorious owlbear Hatebeak and met his fate.
Today, Belasco ekes out an existence by trapping and hunting in and around the Lonelywood Forest and trading with the local villagers, who regard him as a competent loner. There are rumors in Lonelywood that Belasco has an unnatural connection to the banshee that haunts the woods.
Belasco in Play
Belasco is a level 3 Ranger (Hunter) and master archer. He has the Sharpshooter feat, which enables him to shoot at extreme range (up to 600 ft) and ignore most cover. As a hunter and trapper, his favored enemy are Beasts.
To efficiently carry furs, pelts, meats, and supplies, Belasco has a small snow sled which he drags behind him.
Belasco Tactics
Icewind Dale has shaped Belasco into a superior outdoorsman who relies on archery in battle and on the hunt. His tactics include:
- Using Stealth to approach his Beast prey, then Ensnaring Strike to entangle them.
- Sniping a herd animal from a distance and tracking it through the snow while it bleeds
- Baiting a trap and hiding in a nearby tree or snowbank
- Shooting a dangerous target at max range (600 feet)
